Originated over 50 years ago as “Oak Hill Scratch Best-Ball Tournament”, and played over the historic East Course from championship tees, the tournament’s four-ball format has received national attention. Throughout the years the field has been composed of nationally ranked amateur players.

In 1961 the tournament was renamed for a distinguished past member of Oak Hill, Dr. John R. Williams. “The Williams” is a fitting tribute to the trees that made Oak Hill world famous. It was by his hand that many of Oak Hill’s trees were planted.

Last year’s field included 2009 US Mid-Am runner up Tim Spitz; 1998 Williams Champions Don Erickson and John Benson, who became the first team to win in both Mid-Am and Senior Divisions at the Williams in 2009; 6-time US Mid-Am participant Trey Owen, who played with 5-time US Mid-Am participant Brian Harris; 2009 tournament champions Rob Cowan and Tyler McDannold, and a host of other fine players from throughout the United States and Canada.

All top 12 teams from 2009 will be returning for this year's event, along with 1975 and 1997 Williams champion Michael Mercier, who qualified for the 2010 British Senior Open at Carnoustie. In all 20 different states and provinces will be represented at the 2010 John R. Williams Tournament.  The full list of competitors can be found by clicking the list on the left side of the page.
