MID-AM DIVISION
On a final round Saturday in Rochester it was a beautiful 82 degrees. Matt Parziale of Brockton, Mass., and Nick Maccario of Atlanta, GA., successfully defended their title at the John R. Williams Four-Ball Invitational at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.
Unlike last year’s wire-to-wire performance, Parziale and Maccario found themselves in a tight battle. Tied for first after round one with a team score of 66, they found themselves one back after round two to the Texas team of Tyler Thomas and Brad Gibson. Thomas and Gibson bogeyed the 18th to miss a playoff by one.
The Massachusetts duo closed their back nine with a birdie on #12 followed by six straight pars to claim victory once again at one of amateur golf’s most prestigious four-ball events.
Parziale, the 2020 Massachusetts Amateur medalist and 2021 runner-up, and Maccario, a past U.S. Mid-Amateur semifinalist, continue to cement themselves as one of the premier Mid-Am teams in the country.
Of note, Simon McInnis had a Hole-In-One on hole #5 boosting their team to an eighth place finish.
SENIOR DIVISION
In the Senior Division, Bob Royak of Alpharetta, Ga., and Doug Hanzel of Savannah, Ga., delivered a dominant second round and final-round performance to seal the win. The Georgia duo fired a blistering 65 on Saturday — despite a double bogey on the par-3 15th — to run away with the title. [keep reading]
